Hello!

We are transforming the lettings industry and the private rental market - for the better!

We like to be ahead of the curve; setting the standards. For example, we abolished tenant fees way before this became a legal requirement, we have always had Client Money Protection and been a member of an Ombudsman, and we never charge hidden fees to our landlord customers.

Our expertise and professional lettings and management services benefit landlords and tenants.

We let and manage properties for private landlords and also for our sister company, THE ETHICAL HOUSING COMPANY (EHC). EHC are buying properties direct from owners - get in touch if you have property to sell! EHC can buy them empty or tenanted, single dwellings or portfolios.

We believe our whole ethos and high standards show how all letting agents should operate. FOR TENANTS, we have NO FEES (for some time now ahead of the Government banning them). We support tenants to help manage their rent and sustain their tenancies (preventing evictions). We check properties before letting, and regularly when managing them. We don’t exclude someone just because they are claiming benefits. FOR LANDLORDS, we charge fair fees with no hidden costs or mark-ups (which are common practice in the industry). We also tightly control the financial management of properties and ensure legal requirements are met.
With over 18 years quality experience in the UK housing sector, managing 10,000s of private and public tenancies and properties, we know what we’re doing to save you money, time and hassle. We are professionally qualified, accredited and insured. Carla Keegans has held Chartered Member status with the UK Chartered Institute of Housing since 2001 and regularly speaks at housing events.
We aren’t just in it for the money! We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) that chooses to help people in housing need and have a positive impact in the communities and housing markets we operate in.
We use our expert knowledge, networks and experience to support landlords and tenants when navigating the complex world of public and other agencies who impact upon the private rented sector. We cut through bureaucracy and find solutions.
We pride ourselves on our professional and personal customer service. Whether you’re a landlord or a tenant, you will receive an unrivalled service…because we care about what we do. We are in this to make private renting brilliant! Millions of people now live in privately rented homes with 100,000s of landlords, and we’re here to help.
We have big plans! We want to be the biggest and best agency so that we can have the biggest social impact. As a social enterprise lettings agency we care about the commnities we work in. Working with our sister company The Ethical Housing Company we are now investing in local communities, often deprived areas, to purchase properties so we can let them out at affordable prices for the long-term. We look after our properties and so help to retain values in communities where bad landlords have caused decline.

Director profiles

Carla Keegans; The Ethical Lettings Agency
Carla Keegans MSc CMCIH

Carla is the founder of the Agency, and of it's sister company The Ethical Housing Company (EHC), and believes passionately that everyone should have a decent and affordable home. She runs both companies.

After a 15 year career across the
UK housing sector, from trainee to director, she returned home to Redcar to plan and launch the agency. Carla chose to establish the business as a grassroots social enterprise to help meet growing housing need. Within 3 years of opening, Carla had secured £5million of social investment to launch The Ethical Housing Company (EHC) in order to begin buying properties to meet the ever growing need, particularly for homeless people.

This was done in partnership with Bridges Evergreen Holdings Ltd - part of Bridges Fund Management - one of the UK's largest impact investors.  By the end of 2020, EHC had raised a further £7.5million of investment, including £5m from Teesside Pension Fund. Carla is now firmly a supporter of ESG and is currently studying for an internationally recognised qualification. This is alongside her
long-standing Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Tom Biddle: Non-Executive Director
Ben is Head of Evergreen; part of the Bridges Fund Management group. Bridges are one of the largest impact investors in the UK. Bridges Evergreen backed The Ethical Housing Company in 2018 and Tom is an NED of The Ethical Lettings Agency and The Ethical Housing Company. Tom believes in the potential of the TELA-EHC model to help many more people, in Teesside and beyond.
Kevin Lowry: Non-Executive Director
Kevin is an experienced CEO in the social housing sector and is an NED on both companies, the same as Carla and Tom. Kevin brings a weath of experience and knowledge and is a firm supporter of The Ethical Lettings Agency's ethos and model.
